I have a silkie chick (about 4-5 weeks old) they have all been doing very well until today when I came home one little guy was laying on it's side and the others we're picking on him. I separated him from the others. He eats and drinks on his own but he acts very tired. Any suggestions??

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Chicks, naturally, are tired creatures. They are up and going for one second and down and sound asleep the next. And sometimes when one is sleeping, the others take advantage of it and peck on it a little. If it is eating, drinking and otherwise acting fine, I would say put it back with the others and see what happens.

Have you checked him for mites/lice, or intestinal parasites ? ( commonly expelled in the poo). Maybe you could make a wire partition to separate him from the others- so that he would still be with them but not pecked on or bowled over. Sometimes others will bully them away from feed and water.

You could try getting him polyvisol (NO IRON) infant vitamins (at Walmart etc.) and give him a couple drops 3 times a day. If he will eat it off his food that is great, if not, just used the dropper and put the drops just inside his beak. That way if he doesn't want to swallow, he can push them out. I would also give him some finely mashed hard boiled egg - moistened with a bit of plain yogurt to give him a boost.

Yes, baby it for a while, give it some egg, make sure it is drinking and eating well on it's own. Put it back out with the others when you have time to watch and see how they are together.
