I have a 5 day old silkie chick that won’t eat. The only way I’ve been able to get it to eat is through making mash with water and chick feed and putting it on my finger. It won’t drink either. Any advice on what to do or will it pass away? I really want to save it if possible. It isn’t acting lethargic and it’s chirping. I do notice though I have found it twice laying on its side with its eyes closed. It also doesn’t mind being held unlike its siblings. I’ve separated it from the other chicks in its own separate brooder.

Hey there,

sorry to here about your chick, i have had many chicks in the same situation, and multiple have died before i even understood what was happening. lucky for you, it sounds like your doing a great job so far. the only 2 things i will suggest is giving it electrolyte water, and maybe putting that mash in a shallow dish to see if it will get food itself! (you can get chick electrolyte mix to put in water at TSC! but here"s a link to order.)

Best of luck,
Arianna
