:hugs I'm so sorry about Frindizzle! I didn't know it happened while you were gone!! That must've been hard to lose her and not be there! They keep saying that it had to die sometime and that I should've expected that. It's just a chicken to them. Owl died when I was away too. She went missing from the friend's farm and my mom didn't tell me about it for three weeks. I had a concussion so I couldn't work there. It feels like my fault. She would go off on expeditions and I didn't ask for my friend to keep her locked up in the coop for a couple days. If I had won, she would've never been there in the first place. I feel like the worst owner ever :(

Now stop blaming yourself. Tragedy can happen anywhere and anytime. You hear about it all the time. That's just part of being an owner, taking on the good and the bads of being responsible for a living thing. :hugs

You aren't. It isn't your fault.

Well, I was worried about the chickens when we left to Europe. "Everything is going to be okay".... the farm-sitter kept on telling me and everything. Anyways, when I was in Italy, I got a text saying "Sorry, your white chicken with the curly feathers had died. She was fine in the morning, she had died on the nestbox." It was Frindizzle, and I pretty much couldn't breathe.... it really hurt.

I went onto Facebook. People who didn't have chickens:

"Sorry about your chicken. Enjoy your trip!"

"Don't let it spoil your trip, have fun!"

"Sorry about your chicken."

I was pretty angry with them, they just didn't understand. I had loss my grandmother once.... it didn't hurt as much as this.

BYC? Different responses. (See Remembering Frindizzle)

I'll I'm saying is that I can relate, and I'm really sorry about Owl. Thanks for giving her a great life.

A big part of it is :(

I had my chickens in a yard and a fox dug under the fence and killed one. It was horrible and I felt bad for poor six month old Sienna. But it wasn't my fault. I did my best to provide and protect her. That is nature, the law of the natural order of things. If it hadn't been the fox, it could have been a hawk or owl or dog or cat and so on and so on. It's the way it is if you free range. Owl lived a cage free life and a good one. Be glad she knew you, for someone less loving could have bought her and keep her in a small coop her whole life. Please stop beating yourself up with the should of's and could of's. It does nothing but makes you miserable. :hugs

It's not fair that she had to die so soon.
