We got a mulcher/chipper last summer. Will fresh pine mulch/chips made this way be o.k. for the peeps that are due to arrive next week?
My husband runs a sawmill and wood planer. I was wondering if these shavings would be o.k. around peeps and/or hens. They are from pine and hardwoods. No cedar or treated woods.
Thank you for your help. We are first time chicken owners.

They will be fine. Lucky you not having to pay for shavings.

The bedding is usually kiln dried to reduce moisture content.

We do that also. My husband has a wood planer and a mulcher also. We use the trees and branches for the outside pen of the coop and we use the planed shavings for the smaller chicks and the inside of the coop. I have not had a problem with them being too wet or anything.

Thank you very much. That may have seemed like a dumb question to you. But, not having to buy this stuff--being able to use my own--just seemed too easy! I love it.

I also plane a lot of lumber and it is all air dried.. my shavings are just as dry as kiln dried, maybe drier , in some cases..
