I’m new at having a young chick. I haven’t even learned the proper vocabulary so bear with me here. I’m amused at my chick’s behavior and wonder if she’s a rooster. She’s about 3 months old. She will perch on everything: my head, the top of the run which is 4’ high, the perch bar in the run (she is free to roam about the yard but prefers to perch inside the run right outside the nesting boxes). I have 4 JG hens who are a few years old and they have scant interest in perching at all. Also, do chickens like to be petted or stroked any certain way? My chick is comfortable being held and will even stretch her neck out and lay it on my arm when I pet her. So sweet. Thanks for the advice!

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.

Single chick added to the 4 Adults?
She's most likely jumping on you to get away from the older birds...
...agrees wit @Folly's place , it's a bad habit to allow it to continue.

I think you'll have to wait a few more weeks on that one. It doesn't have much of a comb, but the bright red wattles make me pause. Especially if you aren't 100% sure on age, it looks like it's still feathering out some. It is always accurate, but slow feathering can indicate a male.
I would definitely not let it jump on my head anymore, that is a habit that needs to be broken ASAP.
