Hi guys,
Hope someone can guide me here... First hatch ever, so I'm at a loss.
First chick hatched on day 20, she made it out fine last night. I woke up to 3 more chicks (4 in total), all a bit early and all from the same "mama eggs".
I am using an egg flat to hatch the babies.
It seems the little first-born got stuck all night under the side of the egg carton, it's so sad. I had to peel her out of there before she died. She still has dried goo all over her lower back and belly. I took the chicks out of the 'bator and into the brooder so they could finish drying and have a safe place to cuddle, they were getting stuck all over the place too.
First-born seems to have issues with yolk sac absorption, she cannot stand and keeps flopping on her side.
Belly is swollen and when I apply a bit of pressure, clear yellow liquid seeps out of her vent - is this normal?? The 3 other chicks are in fine form, all dried and trying to walk and cuddling together, but this little firstborn looks so different, swollen lower belly, one leg weaker than the other - she can't push herself over from her side.
Is there anything I can do? Will she survive or did she hatch too early? :-(
I haven't put food or water in the brooder yet, when is a good time?
THANK YOU!!
