I have a 2 day old chick that has something wrong with her left foot. She was being incubated under a hen (who doesn't seem to be a good mom) she was the first to hatch but was found outside of the nest in very bad condition. She is doing much better now except for her foot problem. I tried researching what it could be but it doesn't really seem like curled toes or splayed legs, (I don't have much experience with chicken feet though so I could be wrong) which was all I could really find info for. The center of her foot is a much deeper colour than her toes or leg, kind of bruised colouring. And she walks on the side of her foot with her toes tucked together. She can hobble around pretty well and doesn't seem to have trouble getting to food or water. However I would like to do anything I can to make her life easier. Any and all advice is much appreciated. I have added photos of her feet and her sitting to help diagnose. If they aren't there for some reason please let me know and I will try add them again.

Looks like splay leg AND curled toes to me. Put a shoe on the curled toes as described above, but I would make a hobble out of a hair elastic and move the legs under her where they are supposed to be. They are amazingly bendy, little chicks, and I would bet that you see improvement in her within a few days. Make sure that the legs move correctly under her when you manipulate them just to be sure that you dont have a bad knee/hock joint situation. Give her lots of vitamins in her water like Eggcessive suggests also.

Yes, yes. I was so focused in on the foot, that I didn't notice the splay legs—duh!

Thanks everyone for the answers! I have a shoe on her right now, it's keeping her toes apart but it's not really helping her stand straight, I've never hobbled a chick before but I'll try that and see if it helps. I will try take some pictures of my attempt and hope someone can tell me if I'm on the right track with it.
