It does suck when you have to cull one of the chicks but wouldnt a hen probably do the same thing? Its better for the chick. I had one that was blind and put it in with my broody hen, Well the hen took great care of it but it didnt make it anyway, she was no longer broody though. Sometimes its more human to put it down than to keep it because you feel bad or it looks cute. Sorry you had to do that
Edit to say this was not ment to cause any hurt feelings. Please forgive me if it did.

i read a link about radar the chicken with no eyes, anyways he was a buff o cross as well. i wonder if there is a gene that is switched when buffs are crossed. i also have amerucanas in that same pen and radar was half amerucana as well. mine just looks like my b.o./rir crosses. any chicken genetics people reading this your input is wanted.

Maybe that chick was the next step in evolution and it was going to control you with its brainwaves;) No seriously, you did the right thing. I have had a few of these over the years in my hatches. Missing eye, severly curled feet, a misaligned beak (no way it could ever eat). They are rare, but they happen. Youl wouldn't want to pass on those genetics (if that is the culprit)to future generations and increase your chances of having to put more down in the future. Nobody likes doing mother nature's dirty work, but sometimes you have no choice.

I know you didnt ask any questions, just showed photos, but if u need any feedback it would be good to make a new thread since this one is 12 years old. (I read the entire thread anyway). Is your photo recent? Do u intend to euthanize, or try to save the chick? No judgement either way, just curious.
