Just a FYI - this was my first time with chicks - I did lots of research into brooder - one guy on your website made a nice big one out of cardboard boxes - I've found it very difficult to get boxes around here - all the stores bale them up to dispose of them - SO - I thought I'd use the rigid foam insulation panels, as the babies were going to be outside in their coop from day 1 - thinking they might help retain a bit more heat. They've worked fine until the last week or so, when the babies I guess were getting bored - at about 3 wks old - they started pecking the foam, peeling the paper covering off and apparently eating the foam!! DO NOT USE FOAM PANELS FOR A BROODER! So far they do not appear to have suffered any ill effects, and thanks to lots of info elsewhere on this forum - tomorrow they are going to be turned out into their coop - with their heat lamp of course. Just thought I'd pass this along.
