Chick Coccidiosis Help!

Yeah, she could've just filled herself up quickly. I was worried if it didn't get digested and stayed in her crop she may have sour crop. But its good that it cleared itself up. All it takes is getting a tiny bit better every day. Hopefully she will get better slowly but surely!

That's what I was afraid of, sour crop on top of everything else ugh. When I fed her this morning it filled right back up though, should I offer grit? I haven't given her any more egg yolk since yesterday morning....

Two Feathers has a great article on BYC on crop issues. I would not feed her, but keep putting fluids in her. Give massage of crop and what Two Feathers article recomends.

Look who's feeling better! I think she's gonna be ok!

Skyoaks413, it's good to hear that she is doing better, and looking quite cute, too. With coccidiosis, it can be common for the crop to become slow to empty, but that is not sour crop. After you are finished with the Corid, put some SaveAChick or other brand of vitamins , and give some plain yogurt with some of their feed for probiotics. That will help to get the intestinal flora back to normal more quickly.

Thank you! I was worried about her crop a little still because the others have full little crops also, so that makes sense! I figured the entire digestive system is compromised because of how sick she already was the first day we had her. I'll be sure and follow up with vitamins & yogurt that was going to be my next question...how to bounce them back from the corid. Thanks again!

Hey guys! My little June is improving every day I'm so stoked she's gonna make it! Quick question...I've switched them from the corid water (they finished the full 5 day treatment) and now I've put a probiotic/vitamin/electrolyte mix in their water to help bounce them back...how many days should I have them on the vitamins? Thanks!

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice. I have 19 chicks I got as day olds. One of my Easter eggers is lacking in the growth department to say the least. She's been sleeping standing up and is very timid. As I talked to many knowledgeable people on here I realized she could have the dreaded C word. She is still eating and drinking, but she is constantly eating and nothing but skin and bones. Looking for opinions on her condition and wondering if 1.5 tsp of corid per gallon is the correct dosing just in case she does have it. All my chicks are a month old and she stopped growing after the first week. That's why I am not sure it's a parasite. I am new to chickens and this site is an invaluable tool here is her next to a bsl of the same age for a size comparison
