Chick color question

Okay...so all of my new hens are 1/2 Buff Orpington...Billy was their father.

5 are yellow, and one is black, with reddish fluff by it's comb on the top of it's head.

It's been SO long since I've had chicks, and NEVER this young...

Will the 5 yellow ones stay Buff like Billy was, or will they change colors to look like their momas as they grow?

I don't know which eggs were whose...I was only able to mark the old ones so I'd know which eggs were new, initially...so...

The mixes could be SLW, Australorp, RIR, or Brahma.

No chicks have feathers on their feet, and they hatched June 15-18th, so can I assume we didn't have any Brahma mix hatch?

The black one, I guess is safe to assume it's a baby of one of my Australorps?

Sorry for all the questions, but I always appreciate the help.

Thanks!
Kristi

I hatched some Buff Orp/SLW chicks this spring, here they are:

They are feathering out with poorly defined gold-lacing, I think they're going to be very pretty when they grow up though.

Here is a Buff/RIR chick from two years ago:

He turned out to be a beautiful orangey chestnut, a perfect mix of buff and red.

Do these pic's help?

Yeah, your SLW chicks look JUST LIKE my black chick that I've been assuming was an Australorp.

The RIR, I do have one that looks like that...but it's got a reddish "crest" on top of it's head...here's a "front and back" of some of the babies when I let them out to free range, supervised, before re-cooping.

Some RIR chicks have red caps and stripes on their down, I'd guess that all five of the light chicks are from a RIR.

Just out of curiosity though, what color Brahma do you have? I think some foot feathering would show up but who knows for sure?

Oh, he's beautiful! I've got some chicks that hatched May 28th and they are Buff Orpington (hen)
and New Hampshire Red (rooster) cross. I can't wait to see what they look like when they grow up! That's the fun thing about cross-breeding, you never know what colors your going to get!

Gorgeous mix! I hope that I DO have a RIR/BO mix now!!!

To the poster who assumed all yellows would be RIR...there were only 3 RIR eggs in all 13, and only 6 chicks hatched, like I suspected, as when moma #1 first went broody, she'd lay on them all night, then be off all day for the first 2 days...then finally started laying all day/night.

So, I'm still not sure what all of the yellow babies will be.

Hi! I was the one who posted all the pics and assumed that the light chicks were all BO/RIR.

If only 3 could be RIR/BO then I think you must have some BO/Brahma. Orp/Australorp mixes would be black maybe with a little gold around the head, Orp/SLW would be black and gold (if they are female) or black and silver (if male), that just leaves Orp/Brahma... I think

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure.

I know in 2 days, we got 13 eggs...each hen laid an egg a day...but, the first 6 were "questionable".

I am so surprised I don't have more Australorp, unless Billy's genes were very strong...as we have 2 Australorps...so that would double their chances in the hatch.

The brahma is a black/white...someone asked me, might've been you

But the little one we thought was an Australorp is identical to your SLW/BO pic...so that pretty much identifies her.

It'll definitely be fun as they grow to see what colors emerge.
