My 4 1/2 week old runt chick is quite behind her sister but seems otherwise healthy. She is beginning to feather after supplementing with vitamins and seems to be getting some weight to her. She looked 2 days old for a solid 2 weeks, but looks to be slowly but surely catching up.

Now, she won’t. Stop. Chirping. I figured it might just be the fact that I’m around them, since chicks tend to be noisy when startled or confused or when people are present. But today I closed the door to the room they’re in and sat silently outside, and she still kept going. Her sister is developing a raspy chirp as she gets older, so I can tell the difference between the two’s voices.

Is she in pain? She seems okay, and it’s more often closed beak peeping and not fully distressed peeping if that makes sense. It’s just constant, which is weird. Any ideas? Is she just loud?

Is she warm enough or too warm? Can you mix a little of the feed in a bit of water, and offer it to her? Is she pooping okay? What does it look like?

The internal temp of the brooder is about 90°F with ample space on the other side to get away from the heat if needed. (Mostly for the larger chick who needs less heat now) she tends to chill under the lamp so she’s not too hot, and I don’t see any reason she’d be too cold especially at this age and with this temp. She’s eating fine and I have felt her gain weight in the past week finally, and she’s growing in feathers on her wings and shoulders. She’s pooping fine as well, very normal chick poops that aren’t watery or dry. I’m just worried she might have an internal issue and is in pain. Is there a difference between the loud distress chirps and the quiet but constant ones? The noise she makes isn’t as urgent as I’ve experienced with imprinted lonely chicks or cold chicks for example. It just sounds like she’s “talking” constantly, not like she’s yelling for help.
