The TSC in Naples, has no clue what chicks are what. I went and they had 6 large bins filled with chicks. On one bin it had 2 signs, one said straight run and can you guess what the other sign said? Yeah that is right...pullets! I asked the guy which were the pullets and which were the straight runs, just to be a smarty pants. Can you believe he said, "I think the ones that look like chipmunks are pullets...the rest are called straight runs". I asked him to show me on the box what these would look like when they grew up. He said,"my guess is as good as his, I only know the pullets from the straight runs".
I then gave him the low down on chickens and the terminology. I explained that these terms are not breeds. He still said the bin contained all the chicks that said pullet and straight run on the boxes they came in. He even showed me the boxes. I finally gave up.
Now all those pullets were mixed with the straight runs. I wonder if people get roosters if they can return them?
I think the only chicks I will get from there would be sexlink.
Oh yeah, bantams are a breed too. That is the official name, it was on the box from the hatchery.
