A friend and I are hatching out our first chicks and we had one who punched a hole on day 21 (Monday) and than nothing else. Today--Wednesday we knew he was dead so we opened his shell up. He was very dead but fully developed. nothing looked out of place. He looked just like the other chicks who made it. Anything we could have done differently or was he just not quite right and didn't make it?

I wouldnt feel guilty i think it would have just been it wasnt strong enough to make it i had a problem with my humidity so they all made one hole and that was it i had to help them out but they are all fine now it was just the eggs were too dry and hard for them to break through. If all the others of yours came out fine i think that wouldnt have been a problem for you.

Any number of things could have contributed to this chick not finishing the hatch. It is nice when they all make it but sometimes one or two just don't have what it takes. Temp, Humidity, Hot or cool Spots in the bator. They could be genetically flawed or just not have enough strength to make it out. I am sorry you lost one but it is great you also had some success.
