Chick death

So we had a buff orphington go broody. We got her 2 chicks, she was doing great with them. It’s been about 2-3 weeks and I went to check this morning, and both were dead in the straw. With all the rain, could they have suffocated or drowned underneath momma?

Any photos of how you found them, or anything unusual you might've noticed? I don't see how they'd drown even if it was raining, and suffocating (from the mother) is pretty unlikely at this age.
