I made a post the other day about my flashlight falling on two of my eggs. Well I had patched them up and put them back in the bator. The one that was not too bad is doing well. The other however didn't make it and was definately dead. I decided to use it as a learning experiance and very carefully opened the egg. What I saw was kinda shocking. It seemed that it may have had a nural tube defect, or I may have a problem with my heating. It seemed like the skull had not closed like it was supposed to. There was a whiteish bubble looking thing on top of it's head. I swear it was the chicks brain. It also looked like it had some bleeding on the brain. It was at 8 days when the accident happened. does anyone know if it sounds like a defect, or if it sounds like my heating may be off causeing problems? I was thinking at 8 days you shouldn't be able to see the chicks brains by then. It was a turken so no crest. Any ideas? I really hope it's not my heating.

I did take a vid of it but I have a really junky camera and you can't see it all that well.

Saw your video and although I have never opened a developing egg for myself here is a link with developing embryo pictures.

if you look at day 9 it looks a great deal like your baby with exception of the white coloration. you can clearly see the bumps on the head just like yours. not that I want you to feel guilty or responsible but thought these might help you determine whether there was a defect or not.
Sorry for your loss.

Actually that was very helpful. I was more worried about my temps causing defects than the fact my stupid self leaving the flashlight ontop the bator killed my chick. I'm still kicking myself for it but accedents happen and I learned to NEVER leave ANYTHING ontop the bator incase it falls. Plus it was neat to get an upclose look at a develping embryo. I really do think it was the flashlight that killed it. But lesson learned.
