Can the brooder plate touch their backs or heads? What is the temperature of the room they are in? Brooder plates wouldn’t provide enough heat in very cold temps outside. As said, chicks can suffer shipping stress in transit. Get them drinking some fluids by dipping beaks, and show them the food, and a couple of drops of Poultry Cell or NutriDrench may give a boost. Look for stuck on poop that is blocking the vents. Sorry for your loss.

I am not sure how to tell where the brooders position is.
They don't stay under it too well if I get to close.

What are you feeding them? Are you giving them cold or warm water? I like to provide warm(ish) water the first few days to help prevent chilling. I find they tend to drink more if it is warm so they stay hydrated better and are less prone to pasty butt.

I always use a lamp for at least a week with the plate as well, so they aren't getting chilled right off the bat and can start stabilizing. They tend to learn after a few days of being shoved under the plate how to use it

I do too, at least during the day over the feed/water station....
...also gives you a chance to observe them for any abnormalities.

I have used a heat lamp early on in raising chicks, but I used it indoors at 70 degree room temp, aiming for 90 degrees under the heat lamp for the first week. Later on I used a Brinsea eco glow heat plate in the same temp room with no problems. But heat plates will not be warm enough for cold outdoor temps. Hopefully, your remaining chicks will survive, but be careful not to overheat them as well.

I have been monitoring them with the brooder plate removed and the heat lamp on. They are inside and have been inside this entire time with the room temp never dropping below 70. Im feeding them nutrena chick starter and the water is roomtemp. I fill a jug full of water and let it sit so it can come to room temp. I then use that jug to fill up the waterers.

It was relatively new. But i jad been using it for a couple of weeks.
