hey guys I didn’t know who else to talk to but my chick died today after it hatched and got in to the water bowl for my humidity some how and when I woke up this morning it was gone, tried cpr but nothing I keep blaming myself like I could’ve done something to stop this .....

Hi Chickenguy98, welcome to BYC. So sorry to hear about your chick:(. Accidents happen and we lose pets along this path, it's tough when we feel like we should have handled things differently. But those moments are often the ones where we learn the most. Don't be too hard on yourself at this point that serves no good purpose. The fact that you're so bummed about it shows that you care greatly. I asphyxiated one of my favorite hens trying to help her when she was sick so I know how ya feel. But the good far outweighs the tough moments in the long run. Hope you enjoy your time here, there are lots of friendly knowledgeable folks willing to give sound advice and encouragement.

You have a lot of company. Many of us have done stupid things that have caused the death of baby chicks. It's unfortunate that these fragile creatures pay for our learning curve.

Chicks will find an open dish of water, fall into it, flounder, and drown. For that reason, there are water bottles with very narrow and shallow water basins. If you have to use a dish for water or if you need to put a dish of water for humidity where a chick can get to it, placing small rocks or marbles in the water will prevent a chick from drowning in it.

When you have baby chicks, you need to try and make things as chick proof as possible since the little twerps are so good at finding ways to kill themselves.

I'm so sorry :hugs I have been responsible for so many animal deaths. I know that sounds morbid, but especially with hatching chicks, I've gotten too anxious and helped chicks before they were ready and they died. Just last week I had a Mom hatch chicks I wasn't prepared for and the chicks died because I didn't move them out of the main coop. Raising animals is a huge learning curve, I've been around animals my entire life and I'm still learning more every day. I'm sure you won't do it again, do don't be too hard on your self. Learn the lesson that is here to be learned and better luck next time. :)

Many of us have lost animals while doing our best. Don't beat yourself up too much. There's no way you could've predicted that he'd want to go swimming as soon as he hatched. See if you can figure a fix for next time and try to move on.:hugs

Thank you all of your help I really appreciate all this support and comforting , I still have two more eggs and I covered the area with chick wire to make sure no more accidents happen ☺️
