Shrink wrapped why? Up the humidity and leave the incubator closed

I don’t know. I tried to do everything by the book. Only opening as needed for seconds to add wet sponges and remove a bunch of chicks. Everyone was telling me I had too high of humidity and that they didn’t need more. I just followed the book and kept humidity around 70 as best I could. It’s all a guessing game for me. No clue. I did have like 10 weird eggs I candled on day 18. Two air pockets. One on either side. I put them in anyways. Not sure what that was.

Don't sound shrink wrapped but suffering from lack of moisture loss and small air cells? Are they goopy and wet upon hatching?

If you scroll through the thread it sounds a lot like she was dealing with sticky chicks and drowning chicks from humidity being too high at the beginning of incubation, humidity can be finicky, especially with styrofoam incubators. This is why it was recommended by so many to not worry about adding more water. The hatch didn't need it. She may have lost some chicks that weren't able to rotate properly from being sticky.

Most of the activity has significantly slowed or stopped completely which is why she's at the point where I would typically see if a chick requires assistance but as I mentioned this isn't for everyone and she's had a tough hatch so I didn't want her to stress.

I get 100% hatch rates with my styrofoam incubators.
Not the incubator it's the issues.

That's not what I'm saying...styrofoam incubators tend to do better with low humidity in the first 18 days of incubation and all signs in her hatch were do to too high of humidity in early incubation. Sorry for confusion.

Humidity started at 55 and would go to 40 and then I filled wells when I candled around half way.
Raised humidity to 75 ish at lockdown.

all the weird eggs with the two pockets were at the back of the bator most of the ones up front didn’t have any issues.

chicks have been wet but only one seemed abnormally goopy. The first one that seemed drowned pipped in the wrong spot I think. Below air pocket. I had another like that as well.

for now just leaving the rest alone until I feel certain it’s all over.

I’m much more calm now. I did my best I do feel. I tried to follow advice from this site the whole way. The wet sponges were to add moisture at lockdown as I read the wells aren’t usually enough because I need more surface area not just more water.

If I attempt a hatch again I would for sure try a dry hatch. But I need to read more before I feel confident to do this. I will eggtopsy all the ones who don’t make it to learn what happened and I’ll post pictures on here so I can be sure of where I went wrong.

55% was too high at the beginning and 75% way too high at the end.
