Never ever float test eggs that’s all bull crap on the internet. What day are you on?
Hehe![]()
How do I tell which eggs left are viable? I floated a couple and they floated 90% under water and the pointy end down. I don’t see any movement when candled
So I started this with one. I candled. Made a hole in the top by the air pocket. And looked inside. No movement and the inner membrane is all around the baby. Shrink wrapped? Goner?Look at those beautiful babies you hatched!![]()
So sweet!!
Float testing is based on whether you see the egg wiggling, made more easily seen when on water. I don't float test personally but I do what's commonly called eggtopsy when an egg is thought to be dead and I treat it much like I would an assisted hatch just in case the chick is still alive. This is something that's not for everyone and that's perfectly ok. You can just leave the eggs in the incubator for another day and see if anything happens as long as there aren't any stinky eggs. I've heard of chicks hatching successfully as late as day 25.
Ya. I put them all back in and I will just wait. I would hate so much to accidentally kill one.I just hatched a messed up hatch of Call Ducklings. 9 egg I took from a Hen that was almost finished and incubated them. Never turned in my incubator for a week. All hatched two days ago and yesterday. Zero assistance from me. Best thing is to leave them.
If your putting in air holes before ready they die usually. They need to internally pip, then pip the outer shell. Then they zip out. Leaving them to naturally do it is best.So I started this with one. I candled. Made a hole in the top by the air pocket. And looked inside. No movement and the inner membrane is all around the baby. This one was a goner as it was totally shrink wrapped. I haven’t put holes in any others even though I suspect there may be more but yes I don’t want to accidentally ruin one so theyre just sitting in there maybe dead maybe alive. If your putting in air holes before ready they die usually. Shrink wrapped why? Up the humidity and leave the incubator closedThis one was a goner as it was totally shrink wrapped.
