Hi everyone,

Today my chicks started to hatch, I used a broody hen so didn't have to worry about incubation. One of them hatched but was dead. It looks like a navel infection and we found one eggshell with blood in so I assume it's from that chick.

My question is what do I do now? We're still waiting on most of the eggs to hatch so I didn't want to move them to disinfect the area but I don't want to leave it either.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Other chicks so far have hatched fine.

The chick which died was a Millie fluer pekin and the others that have hatched are sebright .

Thanks
Amy

Welcome! I wouldn't disturb anything right now. After everyone is hatch out and the broody abandons the nest, then clean up. Things happen; maybe the egg got dirty, or something. If it's only one chick I wouldn't be concerned. The whole clutch, a different story. Mary

Thank you for your reply that's really helpful, I was so worried about the others. Will let you know how they all get on.
Thanks again

The next Millie Fleur hatched and also died of the same problem. The other breed are all fine. I have one more Millie fleur left to hatch and I'm thinking it may have the same problem.
As it's only the one breed would this be something that happened at the breeder?
