This is my first incubation. I have had several chickies hatch already I think 15. Anyway I have one chick who was working all yesterday on getting out. You could see and hear its little beak chirping out the side of the egg. He manage to get a zip started about a forth of the way around the egg maybe a little less. He quit trying about 11 last night. I can still see his beak and I can see it moving just a little but, he doesn't seem to be chirping or trying to get out anymore. He hasn't tried at all since last night. Should I be worried???? When should I break down and help it???

Thanks:(

I think early in the day. Then it started zipping about the middle of the day. It stopped doing anything about 11 last night. How do I help. It should be ready I have had 14 or 15 hatch already.

Some times you get a few that take longer....i had one pip internally externally and completely fully zip in less than 5 minutes! But i also have had some internally pip, then nothing for 24 hours, then take another 24 hours just to zip....It hard ya know.
I give em at least till tonight.

OR pick off a bit of the shell ( you said it zipped right)? And see if you can see its beak, if so just start picking off a bit of the shell a tiny bit at a time in the natural direction..around the egg.
It may be shrink wrapped possibly, which if it is you should wet the membrane a bit and snip a tiny bit where its beak is, because is beak could possibly be stuck to the membrane and unable to unstick itself so it cant move its head to get more shell off. But be very very creful, it could still be absorbing the yolk, if you see fresh blood Stop immediately

Okay, I broke down and did it. There was absolutely no blood in the membrane. I have never done this before but, I think he was partially shrink wrapped. It seemed like the membrane was stuck to him. Is that shrink wrapped? Well everything went well but, a little bit of blood came from his tummy at the end. I really think it would have died if I hadn't taken it out. I don't think it could have got out but, if it dies from that little bleed on his tummy I will just die.

One these guys are out if there eggs, as long as most of there yolk sac sucked into there belly, you wouldn't believe how tough they are! Im sure he'll be fine. Jist keep him warm:)Keep us posted!

he should be fine... since most of the veins had stopped flowing blood he would have hatched out on his own had he not started shrink wrapping.. just keep in mind he may be a little weak from all the work he did.. and might take a bit longer to stand than the other chicks.. just give him some time and plenty of rest
