thought I should get this info out here right away- the chick can definitely breathe. its beak has poked out many times and it has chirped and wiggled a few times. so, its alive. im not sure if its stuck, or just resting.

it's two siblings, Mori and the drowsiest chick I've ever met, had a blast playing soccer with their unhatched siblings. this egg in particular had already pipped when they rolled it into the wall. I didnt do anything at that moment for fear of opening the incubator with the pipped chick. this morning i gathered the courage to flip it back over.

so, I wasnt sure if the chick was okay, until an hour ago I saw its little beak poke out. it looks like its breathing, everything a normal chick would do. but it's not making much of an effort to unzip.. at least, not yet. would the other two chicks accidentally damaging the outside shell and leaving the shell membrane inside do anything? i think i might just be getting paranoid. it wiggled as i wrote this, in case anyone wants to know. it seems to be trying to peck at the membrane instead of the shell. count on older siblings to mess with the younger ones, I guess?

besides the egg, the other two are doing great! i plan to move them to the brooder, but.. there is a slight issue with that. im pretty sure my dad bought a red colored lamp.. and not a heat lamp. at least he tried??

As long as the chick is breathing and moving it should be okay. It can take a long time from pip to zip - 24hrs sometimes! When did it pip? I would wait 24hrs as long as the chick is still breathing, moving around a little, and occasionally peeping. Often they are just resting. If it hasn't made progress by that 24hr window, you can decide if you want to assist - but if you do make sure to read up about it thoroughly as it can easily turn into a disaster if you don't know what you're doing.

The other chicks rolling around the eggs shouldn't be of worry, though you can move them to the brooder if you are very careful and quick so that you don't alter the humidity much and risk shrink-wrapping the hatching chick. Chicks bowl eggs over in the nest as they hatch all the time, so it shouldn't make a difference as long as the hatching chick can breath.

it pipped around maybe 4-5pm yesterday i believe. however, about a minute ago, it started to zip!! i guess it was just taking a break. thank you for the info though!! it's really appreciated!

Excellent to hear! Hatching is always so nerve-wracking :)
oh, definitely!! ive always had the hens to worry about the chicks hatching, now I'm the one having to worry for them. no wonder they decided to stop going broody!! i still have two eggs who havent even pipped yet, and these three still stuck in the incubator until my dad gets back with an actual heat lamp. It hasnt gone as terrible as i thought it would, though, so that's better than it going wrong!
