Well, I managed to keep my chick alive. :) Finally started to eat the starters a but still likes the trearts very much. I gave him a name. Choo. Pretty good listening to me when say lets go choo gome choo. Right now he is in front of me on a book. Likes to go on my keyboard and sit. He is about 3 times biggger now. Maybe 3 + weeks? Feathers on wings are a little coarser more colors of white/ grey on the wings.

I have taken the chick out several times in the back yard and carport to explore and it follows me around. Yesterday, he got face to face with a older chick in the carport and stared him down. Neck feathers spread and he lunged at the other chick. Wings flapping and everything. Lasted less than 5 seconds. Brave that he challenged the bigger chick. So.. Iguess he will be a rooster??? Pic is from 17th July.

Both sexes will spar at that age, so not definite yet on sex. Glad it's doing better. What sort of treats? Scrambled eggs are a good treat that helps them grow.

Hi,
Sorry that I couldn't get back on earlier. keyboard wouldn't let me type. My chick had gone on the board and sat down. Seems to like it. I had to restart. :)

Treats that the chick loves is Flock Leader poultry treats Defend immune support. The starter food he didn't like until earlier this week. I mix that with the treats and seeds. Also now able to eat some of the smaller scratch mix.

I saw several ways on how to find out sex? One was holding the chick and if the legs are straight down, then its a boy. The chick does that so I am leaning toward it being a boy. If the legs go up against the chest then its a girl.
There are 30+ feral chickens that come around to be fed several times a day. I have learned some things by watching them.

Worked on the chicks I had earlier. Maybe Choo is a female. When the chick get a little older I'll look at the tail feathers to see if the are more pointed than oval. Not many of the dark colored chicks survive to become big. I have 2 hens that are dark colored. One that is jet black has a chick that is black with a white chest. The other one little lighter in color has no chicks yet.

Little one will need chick grit, or equivalent granules of sand/stones.

Just the other day someone else on here was saying it had always worked for them, but the version they'd heard was that legs hanging down = pullet. You can't both be right :gig

It's confirmation bias.
