I have been checking out this website for a few weeks now and have gotten some valuable info for my 1st ever chicks. I'm excited and a bit scared of the mostly unknown. I have a coop that says that it will house 3 chickens with a run attached. I have another daytime enclosure that totally enclosed and mobile for some extra ranging out of the coop area, we have 3 types of hawks in our area so was not skimping. I'm looking into putting a hotwire around the coop for the night. Also will be buring wire around the coop. I have a 6 ft foot vinyl fence surrounding my backyard, about .30 acre. So excited from reading posts on this site from all over. I'm getting only 3 chicks as my county allows 4 in residential areas.
1 Andulsian, 2 Black Australorp. We get hot summers, but I do have live oaks for shade. Is there any hotwire that is preferable over another for a small coop enclosure for protection from night time predators? I have dogs, but are housed at night.
