I stopped at TSC to pick up a feeder and waterer for my chicks that are due to come this weekend. They gave me a bag of Rolling Acres Layer Krum and when I asked about chick starter they said it was the same thing. I took it knowing I was going to need it eventually....but will it be OK for the day olds? It has 17% Crude Protein, 3.1% Crude Fat, 4% Crude Fibre, 3.8% Calcium, .66% Phosphorus, .19% Sodium, Vitamin A, D,and E.

Thanks in advance!

Layer is NOT OK to feed to chicks. It has too much calcium in it and can hurt their kidneys. Go back and get chick starter (medicated or non-medicated). I use Purina Start and Grow Medicated crumbles.

Im no expert but from reading up and thru here I think the best for chicks is "chick Starter" and then when they get old enough to lay move up to layer starter.

Im sure someone who knows will help you out on this

Good luck with your new babies!

You should really get chick starter. My local TSC also told me they can eat layer crumbles I said oh really she said yes. Well i went to Agway and got chick starter (medicated). I felt so much better. Good luck.

Layer feed is never ok to feed to chicks. You will start feeding layer feed when they turn 18 weeks old.
