I got a Barnevelder chick at a local feed store a week ago. It has a toe that is swollen with a shriveled black (nail?) at the end. It seems to walk ok but doesn't like to have that toe touched. Any ideas what this might be? Last picture posted because it's cute :)

Does anyone have any ideas? The chick seems pretty perky though it's small and likes to be under the heating table a lot. Thanks.

What a cutie-pie! I’ve read another post that said the black part should fall off on its own eventually and there isn’t much to do until then. Not sure if the toe will grow back. Hope all the best for the little guy!

Toe was injured in some way, maybe some string got wrapped around it? The black tissue is dead and will likely fall off. The chick should be ok once that happens but I would minimize messing with that area. Keep bedding dry and clean as much as possible.
