This chick is 2 days old, came from the hatchery with the foot in this shape. How do I treat this? Any ideas what it is?

First look, it looks broken

I do not know what to do. I would make sure it has food and water close, might do a search on here (use the search link above your logged in name - the link in the blue bar next to Rules - not the google search box) Search for splint (you can search by word, author, phrase - in different sections of the forum) and or broken foot.

No it does not get along very well on that foot. I have the chick in a small box inside the brooder with food and water within reach. I have read thru lots of pages on here but I am still not sure what it is. The bottom of the foot does not look as bad as the top, there is some discoloration on the bottom but not much. Thanks all for the replies.

Now the leg seems to be swelling, and turning the color of the foot. Going to get a splint put on it and see if that helps. Now the chick is holding the foot up close to it's body but on a good note it is eating and drinking.

Went to put a splint on the leg, touched by 1 of the toes and a discharge of blood started coming out and not quite as swollen now. Will this happen if broken leg or foot? Thanks
