Hi everyone! My name is Noah, I am new to this whole wonderful community! I have just received 3 baby chickens ( polish breed ), that I am very grateful to be able to keep them. It still may be way to early to know whether my baby chickens ( polish breed ) are female or male, but I was wondering if anyone have had any experience with similar looking chicks that maybe grew up to be a rooster or hen, or if anyone knows by simply looking at them! I named by baby chicken, “Nugget” he is the black chicken feathered one with a white head! The other one is “Henrietta” which is the black feathered chicken with a greyish blackish head, and last but not least, “ Delilah” which is my yellow feathered polish chick!
They are about 2-3 weeks old! So still may be too young but any theories I will gladly take to consideration! I will upload some photos! ( If you noticed a few photos of my baby chicken Delilah ( yellow ) is sleeping, he/she is not dead! They all had a big night! ) as you can see the size difference is quite separated apart with our biggest chicken nugget and our smallest delilah, all chickens are healthy and happy, however delilah is a little bit delicate and sleeping a lot, also noticed she/he has not grown very much rather than the other chickens, which are all the same age! If anyone knows something that may cause to this? Let me know or if she will just take time to grow? Don’t forget to help me find the male and female chickens if possible! 😎 + if possible if any one knows the type of polish chicken!

Thanks everyone!
Noah

Cute babies, but definitely too young to tell yet. I'd give it another 3-6 weeks and update this post. Usually the differences between males and females are noticeable around 6-8 weeks of age.

Nugget looks like a white crested black polish and Henrietta looks like a blue polish. Delilah looks like a white polish, or maybe buff.

Unfortunately Delilah also looks like s/he might have "failure to thrive" which is a term for when a chick just doesn't grow despite getting enough nutrition. It can be caused by lots of things, most of which boil down to their organs just not working.

I would add something like sav-a-chick or rooster booster or nutridrench to help support your little chick nutritionally, but be prepared to lose her (or him). Sorry.

You might try posting a new thread about Delilah over on the Diseases/Injuries/Cures or Raising Baby Chicks section. That's going to be your best bet for informed guesses and recommendations on Delilah.

Agreed. I would dose Delilah with Poultry Cell. I do that with any little ones that are struggling and give a .25ml daily dose orally for a week and then offer it in water on the side for another week. I recently had a batch of pullets arrive and the leghorn chick was the size of little bantam, her eyes completely sealed shut, she was lethargic to the point she was on her back and I didn’t think she was going to make it. With the help of rooster booster she is now almost the same size as my white rock pullet at 8 weeks old and fully feathered.

Thanks everyone, I will definitely send some more pictures in 3- 6 weeks. Hopefully Delilah is ok, but I will need to get a hold of some rooster booster or sav-a-chick.

I know however it is still way to early to find the gender of the 3 chicks, but will Nugget most commonly be a male as he is growing up faster than my other chicks and has a larger tail than the others, and sometimes it sticks upwards? Any clues, or is this just how any chicken will act?
