Chick grit

I want to treat my chicks with some scrambled eggs, but I can’t buy chick grit anywhere. Can I go take some small gravel off my driveway for them? Or play sand? Is there something else I can use as a chick grit?

No not in Canada I’m not sure why

You can use any small stones really. I sift out the bigger pieces of play sand gravel in a pinch.

22 years of poultry life and I would say (just my opinion and experience) that they don’t need grit for some scrambled eggs, its soft enough. DuMor chick grit should be available at your local farm supply or you can get it online (I think scratchandpeck feed has some too), but only give it to them if you’re gonna start giving veggies/fruits/grass/crickets etc, things that will need to be broken down.

I see it on Amazon for $13.69 USD. I picked it up at my feed store for $5.99 for the same 5lb. bag. Oof!

It might be, but they don't get much nutrition from it without grit, it just passes through.

I’ve used parakeet grit in a pinch. It’s the same particle size and it worked well for me.
