chick grit

we asked our feed store to sell us 5 pounds of grit and they gladly broke the bag down for us. I noticed they now have half a dozen 5 pound bags on the shelf. The 5 pound bag only cost us $2.75.
Afriend of ours is using some of the extra grit in his small guage train display LOL.

At an Agway store near me they have bulk grit but they do sell it by the pound also, check into this. For chicks you won't really need much before they move up.
There are 3 sizes of grit

small- is called chick grit
med-is called grower grit
large-is called layer grit(adult birds)
I don't see why you couldn't bust up some of the bigger grit in a feed bag with a hammer to get your grit smaller.
I know some people say they give their chicks sand for grit, but I always thought if the grit was too small it may just pass through. Not for sure though.
Glad to see you finally decided on a meat bird Kelly.

We just bought a small box of grit from the pet store for parakeets/canaries and had no problems. At 4 weeks I switched them to regular grit. Didn't know it wasn't needed if they were only fed crumbles...better to be safe than sorry I guess.
