Chick Grit ???

We feed and organic non GMO feed that is not processed like a crumble or pellet starter or grower(it is actual grains chopped up baby size). It is important that with the feed we feed they have a way to get some grit in. That being said I never use chick grit. I put a pan of dirt with rocks in the brooder and change it out every couple of days. They naturally will pick up the small rocks they need. They also naturally forage at just a day old and will dust bathe almost immediately! I also take them outside and let them forage.

Do they need grit all throughout their lives once started on feed other than chick starter? I just introduced my 8 wk old chicks to grit and they ate quite a bit at first. I just sit a little out next to their feed.

If the only food source your birds get is there commercial poultry feed you don't need grit, it is only needed it you feed grains, greens, scraps or they free range.
