This chick started hatching Sunday night. Now the hole in the shell is @ the size of a quarter. Should I help it somehow?

I wouldn't mess with it. If you help the chick too much it might not be strong enough to survive. Good luck! [IMG]

i think it depends. i got lucky i had one chick like that the last one and he was abit shrink wrapped. i chipped a little bit of shell away from his head area. then moistened the membrane with a damp sponge so not to drown the poor thing. and by morning he had hatched himself out.

it can go either way though so i hear you can either help it and take the chance it might hatch or you can do too much and it will die. I chose the "middle" of the two and it worked but i pretty much left it up to the chick. plus the other chicks were surrounding it giving it the peep chant to get out of that shell.
