Yep, Eggberts right. Looks like you're incubating. Tough. I incubate and I have "helped" some out and lost them the next day because they didn't get the time to "push out of the egg" which actually makes them stronger. I have also left them so they could get out themselves and lost them. It's a tough call but quite honestly, if you help them you usually make them weaker. Sometimes you can help them but there are so many variables. I've had a few take 24 hours, not common, but so far I've never lost one who took that amount of time.

Ii have another Ayam Cemani that is in a zipped egg.....alive..moving but it has not progresed for over 6 hours..should I take the top of the egg off??

Unfortunately that's a call none of us can make for certain. It is up to you to make the final judgment. Some people assist the eggs for various reasons and the more times you assist...the better you are at making judgement calls. Some people don't assist for various reasons.

I wouldn't have assisted the first chick you showed because nothing appeared to be dried out. Unfortunately the chick had died. Sometimes chicks don't make it out of the shell because they are weak...or they have something wrong with them. Sometimes the chick is malpresented and it can't make it out without help. I'm sorry your first chick died.:hugs

Sometimes people who have been hatching for years make a wrong call. It's very hard to make a decision sometimes because it can be too early...or too late.

If you can see blood vessels that look very fresh and full of blood...don't assist because the chick is likely not ready to hatch and it probably still has yolk in its yolk sac to absorb.

I assisted the following chick because the chick fuzz poking through the hole had dried out and I suspected it was stuck inside. The chick was stuck inside by an area of dried out membrane.

You can see on the right side where the membrane was not dried out and the chick's fuzz is damp. There's no signs of bleeding and the chick appears ready to hatch.

The chick was ready to hatch so the assist was successful. It would have been better if I had let him push his way out of the egg. It would've allowed the umbilical to dry better. I'm usually a person who doesn't assist. This chick was strong and would likely had made it out if the membrane hadn't glued to her. Strong chicks will usually stay alive quite a while. Assisting too early almost guarantees a dead chick.

My egg looked just like yours but a little dryer...I removed a part of the top shell and it popped right out...yolk absorbed.....it is peeping and sleeping!!!

So happy you had one that made it with your help! It really is hard to make a decision, but if you incubate, it is something you have to learn.
