So my chick Sylvia, she’s a “green queen” from Meyer hatchery and last night I noticed she’s growing- what I think are, toe nails on her little upper knuckle. Is this normal? Genetic quirk? I’m just curious! She’s loved either way, I am curious to find out if it’s going to fall out or get bigger… I wonder if I’ll have to trim it lol

I could be wrong, but that looks more like a pin feather than a toe! I base this off my "Marans" that I wasn't expecting to have feathered feet have a similar "growth" when she was smaller, which grew out into lovely leg warmers. I would wait and see what happens with it!
Based on the Meyer's webpage suggesting that there is a chance of feathered legs, my bet is on that!

Hmm hard to tell if it is part of a toe. If it turns out it is and the nail starts growing, you may need to trim once in a while, but I wouldn't anticipate it causing too many issues otherwise.

Oh thank you!!! I was super super confused!!!

Yeah, based on your chick being a cross with the WIDE variety they mention in the listing, its not too surprising. I wouldn't be concerned, unless you see others picking at them or as they grow into adolescence they do turn out to be an extra limb and might require trimming of nails for safety/health. Cute as a button regardless!

So have been keeping an eye on it and I do believe they are extra digits!

it’s very hard, and while she has a few feathers on her legs this looks vastly different and has a different feel

It’s very cool and I’m excited to see how she develops!
