Hello all,
My almost 2 week old sex link was showing signs of vitamin deficiency (ataxic gait, fatigue) so I did some digging and began with Save A Chick electrolytes, which didn't improve things drastically so I moved on to Poultry Cell. As stated in the title I administered about 1 ml orally at which point it developed a wet sounding cough/cheep soon after. It is eating and drinking and survived the night and seems to be doing ok today despite the wet sounds it makes. I purchased Vetrx poultry aid today but have not administered anything as of yet. The vet can't be seen until this coming Wednesday and I really don't want to pay $70 just to bring in a chick to get antibiotics... is there anything else I can do? Should I use the VetRx? Advice welcome. TIA

It does look like it aspirated some fluid. It started this after you gave poultry cell?
Yes, it did not sound like that until after the poultry cell. All but one got 1 ml of poultry cell from a syringe since they were displaying signs of vitamin deficiency. This bird is the only one that is showing signs of aspiration. I just don't know how to help it or what else to watch for, or if I should even try to use the syringe anymore since they are so small. It was harder than I expected.

Giving liquid orally with a syringe is very risky. Tubing is actually safer, but requires ordering the right size tube.

Where do you live?
