Chick hatched still attached to umbilical cord? HELP!

I'm really impressed you got 3 to hatch in a box with a utility light!!!
Eggs are pretty tempermental needing and exact temp and humidity.
They make incubators fairly cheap if you want to keep hatching.
I have the most basic Farm Innovations still air incubator (like $45) and I have really high hatch rates from that.

I made an incubator out of a cooler. I believe that you can find out more about them on this site or youtube. Good luck.

today my hen wasent sitting on the egg thats was hatching so i brought it in and hatched it myself i put it back in the nest with the umbilical cord still attached. is that the right thing to do

I called it umbilical cord also, had babies and they cause bleeding if not clamped so i decided to leave it and let all the blood to dry on its own, all I could think to do and my chicks did good. And im glad I could finally give my experience to someone cause im so new and have had so many questions. This site is awesome so many people that will help. I have the same problem at the momewere the umbilical cord has been stacked for 10 hours and not come of but it's dried up and the chicks very happy

Thank you all for your info. I am hatching chicks for the 1st time and one is still attached to the shell by the umbilical cord. I freaked out a bit, then thought I am checking BYC. Thank you, thank you.

I am so grateful for all of the help in here. I just had the same thing and I was not sure if I should intervene or not. Unfortunately my chick is completely dry and is still dragging around half its egg due to "umbilical cord" still being attached.

After months of failure,our first chicks are hatching (barred). The chick had a pip hole at 4am, was unzipping all day and finally came out of the egg at midnight...still attached to shell via umbilical cord. Now the shell has been removed from incubator but umbilical cord and sac are still attached to chick....

Thank you for this post.. I currently have seven that hatched with a little string still hanging but this last little is flopping around with shell still attached by the cord.. I didn't know what to do.. so, I started googling..
