One of my chicks's eyes are shut. Can anyone tell me what to do? I hate the idea of culling but I really can't handle a handicapped bird. Please tell me that she will make it.

If it acts sick, then you would probably be better off culling, sad. He won't be able to find food or water.

it is pretty fluffed. hatched sometime today. I put it back in the incubator. I am hoping she opens her eyes.

The most humane way is don't think about it. Just go roll it in a paper towel or two, take a big knife and press down hard on the neck and hold the knife like that for about 30 seconds. I am queen of dwelling on it. I've learned to just get up and quickly get it done. Your doing it a favor.

I would certainly give it 48 hours-72 hours unless you see no improvement at all. They don't need food or water for 3 days. It gives you a chance to see if things get better.

I would try using some warm water and paper towels to wipe the eyes and see if that helps at all. Good luck!
