This baby just hatched out under a hen this morning and wouldn't stop cheeping so I took a look at it and it seems to be doing the stevie wonder and keeps its head wayyy back so it rests on its back. I have read a bit about crooked neck but have never had to deal with it first hand. I have a few more issues going on with other hens so I have spent a small fortune on supplies for them. My first question is If it is a vitamin deficiency would Vital in the water be enough to help or cure it or do i need to go out and buy Ac vinegar,VitB,Selenium, and whatever else or will that be enough? I could go out and get the polivisol w/o iron if need be but i'm afraid I can't afford all the other items at this time. I would like to take care of this ASAP for the poor chicks sake. It can't walk either and rolls onto its back then can't seem to get back on it's feet again. I am desperate for advice TIA

They doing a lot of odd wobbling around and unstable manuevers when they first hatch. It usually takes them a day or to before they are up, running & acting like mini chickens.

Oh I know, I figured I'd wait until tomorrow to treat the chick with anything but i'm really thinking something is seriously wrong and want to be prepared if treatment is needed. In the 4 years I have been hatching and raising chickens I have never seen one like this. The chicks eyes are moving like it is spinning in circles.

Well this morning I set the chick on the floor to see how its getting around and here is what i saw.....

The chick keeps doing backwards somersaults (sp) I realize I may have to cull it and I'm ok with that but in a last ditch effort to make a possible save does anyone have a clue what could have caused this?
It just keeps looking up at me and makes this purring sound that breaks my heart!

I have been dribbling v&e water down its beak every few hours, it is still under the hen who hatched it and so far mama is very careful with it.

I have no experience with this, just what I've read. Something about "wry neck" maybe. I believe it's caused by a vitamin deficiency and that polysol without iron is what I read was used. I hope I'm remembering correctly but I think I am. Good luck

I read the same thing about wry neck, I think it is more then that unfortunately. The video didn't really show his eyes moving like he is spinning in circles and it appears to be having little seizures
