I incubated 24 chick eggs. (several different kinds of chickens) I had two hatch and they look normal. Two died after egg was pipped. One pipped and zipped a little, but after over 24 hours of trying to get out with no progress, I decided to help it some. The chick is out and hopping around, but it has something hanging out. It looks like maybe part of its intestines. Is there any thing I can do to help it? It seems to be getting around fine. I really hate to kill it, but is that what I should do? If so how do I do this? HELP!

please do a search on this topic. It has been posted by three different people today alone.

Also, you will probably get more responses if you post this in the emergency section.

I hope it does well!

sometimes the "intestine" look is actually the last remnants of the yolk membranes that attached it to the wall of the egg...if it is less than 2 inches long and has a thick whitish gob at the end away from the belly, this may be it. if it is longer, it most likely is intestine, and the chick may or may not absorb it on its own.

DO NOT OTUCH THE BABY. Your hands are COVERED in bacteria, and can cause an internal infection if you come in contact with the belly button before it closes and dries completely.

Good luck!
