Hi -

I have 6 new chicks. They are 2 weeks old. I noticed today that one of the Americaunas is trembling. She's not cold, just shaking. She is eating and drinking normally and looks good otherwise. Anyone know what this could be? I might also cross post in the new chick forum.

Thanks for any help!

I agree with temperature concern. Make sure you have a thermometer, but also make sure you have no drafts. A thermometer is not going to measure wind chill. If the temp is on the low end of an acceptable range, but you have a draft, the temp could actually be a few degrees lower.

In case it is not a temp issue, make sure you keep a close eye on her so you can respond if she gets worse. Hopefully, if she gets worse (hopefully not) the reason will become more obvious than it is now.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm pretty sure it's not temperature related. She definitely is shakier when standing and less when sitting. I am intrigued by the vitamin deficiency thought, though. She and the others are all on a medicated 'Start n' Grow' I have used this on all my others successfully. I am running with the deficiency idea and looked into it a bit further and it sounds like possibly a Chloride imbalance. We are on well water and I'm wondering it that might be it? Seems like the feed should be ok.

Has anyone ever seen Chloride deficiency in chicks? Is this common?

Shall I give electrolytes? Pedialyte perhaps? Vitamin suppliments? Any other thoughts?

Thanks, Jen
