The symptoms sound like coccidiosis.
Regarding a test at the vet, keep in mind that they will always find coccidia regardless of whether the chicken has resistance or not. A vet tech, with due diligence, coccidia will almost always be detected in the feces of animals with access to soil.
In the future, always pay special attention to moisture in bedding. Coccidia requires it to complete its life cycle. This is the easiest way to prevent outbreaks.
