Chick hurt bad but not from the predator you would expect. graphic!

Some of my friends have asked me "oh why do you bother with that incubator? let the hens do the broody thing for you and they will be fine" I tell them: I hate the thought of the babies getting eaten by something... whether it's a snake, rat or god forbid another chicken.
For me, I would rather incubate my eggs, keep them in the house in the brooder for a month, move them to the outdoor brooder for another couple weeks and introduce them to the flock there after.
I'm sure there are a lot of wonderful hens that would give their lives for their young, but some just go coo-coo and kill babies for no reason.
I love the thought of "nature taking it course" but sometimes nature can be ugly!

I tried letting the broody be a mom too. I know the opinion of most here is that she did the work now let her be the mom. However, after picking up that poor cold stiff baby off the coop floor, I say no more. They go in to the brooder in the house.
