Brand new chick has curled up right leg, wet feathers - haven't fluffed up and something distended from its butt.

It was out with its mother so we've brought it inside and put it in the bator to try and dry it out.

Has something had a go at it? Cat? The mother? Another hen or roo?

Will try and get a pic uploaded.

Will it recover? is it worth trying to help it?

Its a really pretty looking chick and I'd like to save it.

Any help is appreciated

I agree, looks like a mouse might have attacked it. when the chicken started squirming along with the others it might have scared it away...trust me it will come back IF that is what it is. Keep a close eye on them all. Good Luck, I hope he makes it.

Unfortunately that sounds very possible

We live quite close to the milking shed and the calf rearing shed. And prob about 200meters uphill from a pit full of palm kernal.

Will double check on Mum and other baby before we go to bed. She was nesting on the ground under the chook shed.

Might leave hoppy baby in the bator overnight?
Any other suggestions on helping him/her?
