Picked up a few new chicks from tractor supply today. This one was in a tub labeled “Rainbow Pullets.” Wondering if anyone has ever seen a chick like this or know what chicken this is. Thank you

Following because I picked up 3 from the "Rainbow" bin at my TSC today. I think they're from Ideal Hatchery? The guy who had the knowledge was really busy and I didn't get to ask which chicks came from Ideal and which came from Hoover.

I'll post pics later of my 3 "Rainbows".

They're a bit bigger than the black sex links I also got.

Your Rainbows probably came from Hoovers.

Ideal does not have any listed on their website, but Hoovers does:

Unless they are Ideal's "Rainbow Carton" assortment, which just means they put a specific mix of pure breeds in the box together:

I thought that at first, but something had me wondering.

The reason I suspect it's Ideals, is because the sign didn't show what color the eggs would be, but did on the other signs. The eggs were kind of blued/greyed out. I'm going to call to find out tomorrow when the guy with more knowledge is in.

Following up. The "Rainbow" chick is 4 weeks old. Any better idea as to what it may be? I posted the chick when it was a few days old on a reddit forum. Numerous people said it was barred rock. A few said cuckoo maran. I am also confused about what it is since barred rocks and cuckoo marans look similar at this age it seems like from research.

The most obvious difference is usually the skin color.

If you look at the soles of the feet and maybe the tips of the toes, Barred Rocks are supposed to have yellow skin and Cuckoo Marans are supposed to have white skin ("white" skin sometimes looks a bit pink.)

When they grow up, Cuckoo Marans are supposed to lay dark brown eggs while Barred Rocks typically lay brown eggs that are not as dark.

I disagree and believe TSC is confused about bin labeling (very common occurrence). That is definitely the meat bird cross called a Rainbow carried by Hoover's. The bin meant that specific cross rather than a rainbow layer. It's very course boned and clearly not a Marans or Plymouth Rock. Here is a link to the cross for more information. :)
