Is your heat lamp a red bulb? It looks like it is in the picture, but pictures can be deceiving. Last year I had one that was very loud, I put in a stuffed animal, that didn't really work. I put a radio next to the brooder box and it quieted down. It was not very loud and it had both talk and music. It really helped and my kids ended up getting more sleep because the brooder was in the bedroom between my kids bedrooms.
