hello, my chick is stuck in its shell since this morning it only has a pipped hole bear in mind the pipped hole has some of the men rain showing but it looked like it was bleeding but I left it for a bit haven’t made any improvement. I know you should help but I felt I needed to, and it was a bad idea😕 the steps I took were; I removed some of the outer shell you show the white membrane and I wet that with a cotton earbud. However, I didn’t know what else to do so I simply removed some of the membrane but it looked like the blood vessels were still running if you get me and it started to bleed not a lot but just around the rip of the membrane. I am not too sure what to do now, I felt like this will be the only place to get answers. And I know I did something wrong.
The condition of the chick is fine, the chick is still moving inside the egg and it is making noises.
So what should I do know?

Moisten the membrane with coconut oil to keep it from drying out and let the chick work on hatching.

Hi, hatching is a learning experience. It can take up to 24 hours from pip to hatch "normally" and some go well beyond that while they absorb the final bits of the yolk into their bodies. I feel that you assisted way too early. The earliest you should intervene would have been tomorrow morning. Unfortunately our people-skills want to assist quickly, but hatching is a long, arduous process. I'd let it be for now and hopefully it will pull through.

Hi, I'm just wondering, I won't intervene with the chick tonight but when do you think I should help again?

After about 24 hours it is usually ok to help a little. The blood spot you noted was likely a vein in the outer membrane and not attached directly to the chick. The bigger issue you will likely have is the membrane around the chick will become hard and then the chick will actually be trapped because they can't cut through that. That's why Dobie suggested some coconut oil. When morning comes, if she's not out, then you may need to help a bit by cutting the membrane and starting the "zip" which is the little rip around the egg shell they do at the air pocket space.
