chick just hatched today was pecked. The chick is bleeding under its belly. I'm not sure what to do. This chick looks early and had a funny looking bump where it's now bleeding. Anyone know what this is ?

When I picked it up something yellow was leaking out. I'm worried I know they have a yolk sac but not sure if it will survive

The chick is still alive I have been giving it water and mixed chick food through an eye dropper. He or she chirps when touched. One thing that worries me now is the wound or yolk sac is now hard and fused to the cloth under the chick. How do I get it off? Or will this fall off eventually?

Update. As of 1:27 am baby chick has been trying to move and making a lot more noise. I soaked the rag in warm water to help soften up the sac so I could remove her from the bonds of that rag. She had had a bit more to drink/eat by force of course. I am hoping that by morning I will find her at least moving around. I will call her Lucky. Lucky looks so much better apperence wise than she did earlier. I will let everyone know how she is doing. I am positive thinking this chick is a she because I really don't need another rooster and I plan on keeping this sweetie!

I know nobody has even posted to this yet but in the likely event someone does I want to keep it up to date. She is doing much better. Chirping more even moving more but not much. She opens her eyes for a few seconds at a time. I am hopeful that by this time tomorrow she will be more active.

I'm sorry no one has posted to this thread and I have never hatch my own chicks so I can't advise. But I think you are doing everything you know how to do to the best of your ability and I hope your chick survives. Best of luck. I subscribed to your post because I want you to succeed.

Thank you. I love the support from BYC

Hey Mandy020386

I am also sorry no-one had replied previously, I saw this for the first time just now.

I am not an expert on what ails chicks or early chicks, only having had 5 hatches here myself to date and all chicks were healthy.

You mention that the chick got pecked. Were you thinking this is the result of that peck or was (s)he like this when (s)he was hatched?

To me, it looks like (s)he could be early or if (s)he was pecked, quite badly.

Sadly, I do not have any more to add above what you are already doing but someone else may have.

I would be concerned if she is not pooping?

Like Fly Right I so hope your little one survives also and hope that you get to keep her

Right now she's on more of a liquid diet. I am concerned about her going poop too. I have changed her bedding because of fluid under her. Not sure if it's drainage from the yolk sac or if she went potty. She was born two days before schedule like 4 of her other siblings. Two out of the three had yolk sacs not absorbed. That's what was pecked. She did not get to properly absorb that and it's important for the chicks for nutrition. And she lost blood. I am having to force feed her but she looks better and makes more movement and noises. I'm not sure how to explain her condition right now cause I don't know. I am hopeful she will survive. She's almost made it 48 hours and I honestly thought she would die pretty fast after that happened. I will keep you updated on her progress thanks
