Chick injury

I had a hen get free and attack one of my chicks and injured her I don’t know the severity if the injury. If someone can tell me what I can do

Hello and welcome to the site. I’m so sorry about your chick. How is it doing today?

That appears to be either the crop or some other organ protruding, I’m not really sure. Is a vet an option? You will need to keep that moist with something like triple antibiotic ointment (w/out pain relief in it). Treat her for shock by giving her some electrolytes in her water with a pinch of sugar and keep her warm.

Welcome to BYC. It looks like the hen has grabbed the crop and pulled it out through a hole. Is the organ or crop punctured or leaking water or food? Remove the chick, and spray some saline or wound spray on the area. Will it go back inside the hole? I would be tempted to repair the skin with Superglue or a stitch or strips of tape if possible. Is a vet possible? Keep the organ from drying out. If you can or push it back inside, then coat it with Neosporin.

Thank you she is doing fine we’re not sure if we should take her to the vet but we have been giving her electrolytes.

Good to hear. A vet may be the best option, but I think @Eggcessive has the best advice if the vet isn’t an option. Do you have something to put on the organ/wound until you can consult a vet (or decide if you want to consult a vet)?

He have been spraying vetericyn on it every couple of minutes

Can you disinfect your fingers and try to insert it back into the hole? Is the chick drinking and eating anything?

The chick is eating and drinking but the organ is a little dry

Do you have coconut oil, Vaseline or any type of ointment you could put on it? You don’t want the organ to dry out and die.
