Chick is hatching: Membrane is dried out! Help!*UPDATE: She made it!*

Quote:
OK thanks he says that near the back there's blood vessels but near the front it's not. The membrane appears to be really tight and rubbery around the front and everywhere else it's moist and wet.

He's wrapping him up and leaving him in the bator for now. Now all we can do is wait.

But what if the chick pipped yesterday afternoon and it didn't make ANY progress at all?

The chick has feathered feet and is darkish colored with some white coloring as well.

It hasn't hatched but we have been leaving it alone and the chick is about half way out!

He/she is still alive and peeping, membrane is now very moist and soft after being wrapped in warm wet paper towels. The chick can easily get out if needed, but for now seems to be taking a break(while peeping once and a while).

Thanks everyone for all the help!

The chick is almost out! He/she will be the first chick that I've ever hatched in our homemade bator or any bator ar all!

I agree I've had chicks take three days from piping after that I've intervened if necessary, but not before.
Put a sponge in the incubator get the humidity right up you won't hurt the chick, I have a friend who tells me he will submerse the egg in warm water up to the edge of the removed shell to allow the water to run between the membrane and the shell but not into the chick, and he says their out within the hour, how effective this is, is only hearsay not had to try it yet

The chick seems pretty small, which is reasonable, since it came from our Amer. pullet, who is the 2nd smallest chicken we have(next to a Buff Cochin bantam pullet) and the blue egg was fairly small, too. But it will(hopefully) be adorable when it hatches! We've never hatched a feather-footed chick before!

So close to being out now!

The chick is out of the egg now!(well, except that it's butt seems to be still attached to the shell). It's just resting right now in the bator. It is dark with white colors, the beak is black with a white tip, and he says it has huge feet. The legs and feet are feathered, too!

Hey everyone! Right now, Oreo(which is what we have named the chick) is alive, dry, and all fluffy!

She is a dark chocolate color(with some chipmunk stripes, since she came from a black Amer.) and with blotches of white and gray mixed in(from the Splash Cochin rooster). My dad says she's really pretty with all the multi-coloring. I will post pics next week!
